Holidays? An Excuse To Work!

It's always better on holiday
So much better on holiday
That's why we only work when
We need the money.....!

Those are some of the lyrics from Franz Ferdinand song "Jacqueline"
I mention this because it basically sum up the last two weeks of my life, Work Work Work!

This is despite the fact i had been told it was a "teaching recess" or as my mind translated it "holiday" seems I did everything but.

I mention this because I figured out what’s been driving me for the last two weeks. The all almighty dollar or more commonly known as Money!

Yes Money, money, money, Must be funny, in the rich man's world. Thing is I ain’t no rich man and it's no laughing matter :(

You see I am a simple man with simple needs and one of these need is money, and lots of it. But it seem I can never have enough. i mean can anyone have too much money?

And the only way to get money is work. (Despite my best efforts, I can't find a money tree!)

I say all this because I believe have an addiction. An addiction of the worst kind! An addiction to work!

Every time I return to the real word, (that horrible place outside of student life) I find myself begging my boss for more hours at work.

Of course he’s more than happy to work me to death (not really) and does his best to find me some hours. Still being sane don't take every hour because I do have a life right.....! :/ Ummm?

This is all fine and good; I have created a nice balance between work and play and now have two blissful weeks of Tecless work. But then there’s the times I’m not at work.

I find myself sitting in front of the television (or as my parents once called it, the "Idiot box"), bored out of my mind. And I start to think, I could be working right now!

Then the nagging feeling creeps up inside of me "I should have taken those extra hours" "Then I may have had enough money to get that DVD I wanted" "I mean come on Rhys! your a poor student, work dam it work!"

In the end I guess I’m just getting older and becoming a money hungry capitalist dog. Well to that I say “Woof Woof!”

How Did I End Up Here?

The Internet is a big place, and I don't mean big as in the Earth is big. I mean the Internet is really really BIG, as in you will never ever see it all, just like the earth. And that’s kind of sad :(
Yet we all want to see as much of it as possible. Thing is, as big as the internet is we are all able to find what we need. But how is that possible?

Well the best way to find such thing is of course is Google, one of the internet gods (ALL HAIL GOOGLE!). As you may already know Google is a search engine which magically finds websites for you (if you don't know what Google is, you are dead to me). Strange thing is I used to have no idea how Google find these websites (magic?), and that was rather ignorant of me. But now I know the truth. And as they say. "The truth will set you free"

You see Google is like a leech. It needs blood to survive. And the internets lifeblood is Links. Links are of course what connect you from one page to another aka linking you to another page. Any idiot on the internet can create a link. Case in point, even I can. http://blog.jm3.net/img/IM-IN-UR-LINKS.jpg. Disturbing, I know.

What Google does is searches the web by seeing which website has the most links leading to it and listing them from most to least links. This may seem like a brilliant idea. But you see it has its flaws.

Just because a website has links to it, it does not necessarily mean it’s what you are after. An example of this is if I was to type in the name of this blog "Media Witty" into Google. Of course I would hope it would be at the top of the list. But if someone was to create links to another website with the title "Media Witty" as a tag, it would pass my Webpage as the number one search on Google’s list. And that’s just not right, I’m number one dang nam it!

So what have we learnt, firstly we now know you MUST Link to my page! or else it will be lost in the Bigness of the internets. Secondly, we now know even God aka Google can be manipulated into showing what others want you to see.

See! It's amazing what you can learn when you listen in class, (Thank you Stephen Harlow) If your in my class and didn't listen this probably seems like Deja vu?

Your Smarter Than Me! You Just Don't Know It?

Yep! I’m as surprised as you are, But its true.

Ever since starting at Wintec I have managed to meet some interesting individuals. These are mostly tutors, students and just randoms.

After meeting all these people something strange starting happening. I staring questing myself! a very scary and strange proposition.

This was me suffering from something I like to call and "information overload" and in my eyes it a good thing.

Since all these people are individuals, they all have varying opinions on different things. Because of this I have got to hear their point of view on different matters.

Although I seem to agree with may of peoples views on the world, others i just cannot see the logic in, and that awesome!

I know that a peculiar thing to say but it makes sense. The world needs people with different views. If everybody thought the same what a boring world we would live in.

I guess that all a really have to say, just thanks to everybody for being different! keep on truckin
